Owl Class
Welcome to Owl Class!
We are a class of reception children taught by Miss Gallone with Mrs Miller - our full time HLTA. We have lots of fun in our small class, which has a maximum of 15 children. Please do not hesitate to contact the school office if you would like to arrange a visit or if you need to speak to a member of staff.
We attach great importance to child-initiated learning and developing children’s creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills as part of our provision of a broad and balanced curriculum. We believe that working with families is a key factor in achieving these aims. For children in Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum. The EYFS has the child at its centre, our planning starts with observing the children in order to understand and consider their current interests, development and learning.
Our Class Adventures
The children enjoy many opportunities in Owl Class, including trips to Bluebell Wood, The Farm, The Park, The Theatre and pumpkin picking. We share photographs and school news of our adventures via Instagram (@clipstonpvprimary), showing various activities, inside and outside the classroom that we have all enjoyed! Visit and follow our page for regular updates.
Forest School and P.E.
PE is on a Thursday afternoon and Forest School is first thing in the morning. The children should come in with their PE kits on preferably wearing jogging bottoms for Forest School and trainers which can be exchanged for wellies. We prefer if the wellies are left in school. During colder and wet days can the children come in wearing their waterproofs these can be taken off for PE.
In Forest school we go out in all weathers, the only time we don’t is when we have high winds and thunderstorms so please ensure that your children are dressed appropriately and always bring in a coat to school.
PE Kits need to include;
- a pair of black shorts
- a red t-shirt
- a pair of black joggers
- black tracksuit top
- trainers (for outdoor PE)
- Spare socks if your child is wearing tights to school
- Black plimsolls to wear indoors are optional
Please note commercially available Team Kits (Football Team shirts and shorts etc.) are not allowed.
Jewellery is limited to one pair of earlobe studs. These must be removed by ourselves during PE (or covered with micro-pore tape supplied by our parents). Make-up, nail varnish and large hair accessories (e.g. Jo-Jo bows) are not allowed. Any hair-bands or clips must reflect the school colours of red / grey / black / white. Thank you for your support.
Home/School Reading Books
Your child will have two reading books a week to read at home. Books will be changed once a week, usually on the same day. Please see the reading information sheet inside your child’s reading wallet for more information on how you can help to support your child with their reading at home. Library Time is every Friday afternoon. Please ensure that your child’s book is returned every week. Thank you.
We hope this will have addressed some or your questions regarding how we will work this year in Owl Class, but if you any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact me or Mrs Millar.
Many thanks for your co-operation.
Miss Gallone and Mrs Miller
Please ensure that all your child’s belongings are named (including ties, water bottles, bookbags and lunchboxes!), as this should help return your child’s belongings to them if they are lost or misplaced.
Any lost property found will be put in the box in our cloakroom.
